Selen

Selen [zeˈleːn] ist ein chemisches Element im Periodensystem der Elemente mit dem Symbol Se und der Ordnungszahl 34. Es kommt in mehreren Modifikationen vor, die stabilste ist die graue metallähnliche Form.

Selen (Se)

Ordnungszahl: 34
Name: Selenium
Namensursprung: Greek: selênê (moon)
Entdeckung: 1818 by Jöns Berzelius in Sweden
Beschreibung: Soft metalloid similar to sulfur. Ranges from gray metallic to red glassy appearance.
Vorkommen: Obtained from lead, copper and nickel refining. Conducts electricity when struck by light.
Verwendung: Light causes it to conduct electricity more easily. It is used in photoelectric cells, TV cameras, xerography machines and as a semiconductor in solar batteries and rectifiers. Also colors glass red.
